The words; self-esteem and self-confidence are banded about quite a bit and there are related to other terms: self-efficacy and assertiveness.
Before you download a hypnosis or subliminal mp3, its best to get a handle on what each of these terms mean. Take some time to do a little research and a bit of soul searching first.
- To ensure that you find the self-help programme you?re truly looking for
- So that you can clearly appraise how the download is working for you
As you don?t have much of a clue what the subliminal messages are and a hypnotist often uses metaphorical NLP to imbed concepts, it can make this a little difficult to work out what your self-help download is driving for.
They are used interchangeably, but when it comes to self-improvement programming, from the companies who will find reviewed here, it makes an awful lot of difference.
Let?s look at each in turn.
Self-Esteem
Self-Esteem
Self Esteem refers to your appraisal of yourself. It?s how you feel you about yourself. If you have a low self-esteem, you are besieged by feelings of not being worthy of love, or worthy of good things. Your belief that good things won?t happen is driven because you don?t deserve good things ? you don?t deserve to achieve or be a successful person. ?You don?t feel like you?re worth much and may feel guilty when good things come your way. It?s an honest evaluation of yourself, and influences so much about how you interact with the world around you and what you actually will achieve in all areas of your life. Do you value yourself? It?s a feeling which is often linked to how well you got on in your childhood. As such it is very difficult to improve low self-esteem without some type of support or intervention of some kind.
Without knowing it you communicate your level of self-esteem quite openly.
Others use this as a very real measure of you ? as everyone knows that they are the best judge of themselves, you are the best judge of you, and if you have high self-esteem, others are more likely to go with your judgement, and regard you in more positive light than otherwise would be the case.
Of the three concepts we?re looking at here, this is deepest and will take the most effort to change permanently. Self-help mp3s can offer very powerful relief, even though this means the real change in your life is subtle.
elf Confidence
Self-Confidence
Self-confidence is different to self-esteem, but arises from it. If you have a high self-esteem, value yourself, believe you are worthy, and then it goes to reason that you would (or allow yourself to) behave in a confident manner. Confidence is related to a judgement of yourself in terms of how successful you are life. Confidence people have more positive body language, are more relaxed in social situations, and communicate that they judge themselves worthy (self-esteem).
Confidence is whether you back yourself in life, and it is far more behavioral and has to do with communication than self-esteem. It?s however a general ? self-efficacy is a comparison with a challenge. Self-esteem refers only to the value you put on yourself. It has nothing to do with what you do with it. So it?s possible to have a high self-confidence but a low self-esteem.
A confident person behaves differently and expects success to come through confident behaviour.
This is different from having good social skills or positive body language. A self-confident person is more positive and carries themselves well because of this inner-feeling. People respect confidence, and confidence is an?enormously?attractive quality in people.
Self-Efficacy
Self-Efficacy
Self-efficacy is a judgement based on a specific situation. Do you believe you will be successful or achieve in a specific task or reach a specific goal? Do you think you can do it, or not? This?has idea is detached from your judgement of your person (self-esteem) and how you behave (self-confidence). It draws upon a assessment based on your previous performance, either general or specific. For example: Can you jump this high?
Either you can or you can?t. It is an assessment of your evaluation of ability or skill set when applied. If you failed to jump 1m off the ground last time you tried, you may still a confident person, love yourself, take control of the situation, but still have a low self-efficacy ? you judge that it is likely you can?t do it. It therefore has nothing to do with how you feel about yourself (self-esteem), whether you are a confident person or not.
Assertiveness
Assertiveness
Assertiveness is something completely different. It refers to how ability to stand up for yourself, for what you believe in and bring your personal power to the situation. Someone with who is not assertive will allow others to ?walk all over them.? They will not seize the moment, fight back when attacked and make themselves heard. They often cannot think on their feet when challenged.
A confident person is not necessarily assertive. Hence the term: Quietly confident.
It?s not all about bluster and force, but it is of course possible to assert yourself strongly with little action or words.
If you?re suffering from a lack of assertiveness, life can be hard, especially in the work place or in new social circumstances. Someone who is not assertive, although they value themselves,? are capable of putting their own needs in front of others, will become anxious and put others needs in front of their own, even though they do not choose to do so.
If you suffer from a low self-esteem, you still can act very confidently (perhaps no one will know you secretly loath yourself and you think yourself as someone who is completely useless) or you will know that you have high ability and talents, but don?t like who you are. Whether you allow this to contribute to whether you believe you are valuable because of successful performance, will inform your level of self-esteem.
Someone with a high self-confidence can also believe they can achieve anything they put their mind to, (despite having a low self-esteem) but when asked whether they are likely to perform a specific task well, may disagree. You don?t need to have an unrealistic view of your ability to be confident.
Usually self-confidence and self-efficacy go together, but you generally are not looking for a misguided feeling that you can achieve any impossible task set before you. (This would come with its own set of problems, like exhaustion, stress or falling flat on your face.)
If you believe you suffer from a low self-esteem, there are products that can help you boost your assessment of yourself, opening your heart to a sense of worthiness and value. If you do think you?re a good person, worthy of love, but fail to translate this into your daily life, by perhaps not making the most of the opportunities you have, have poor body language, then it?s probably more about correcting your self-confidence.
Having a low self-esteem is linked to all manner of disease and medical condition.
A lack of?self-confidence can affect every single interaction you have with the outside world.
Both dramatically change how people will see you, whether they will like you, trust you or feel comfortable in your company. Without self-assertiveness, the world is a vampire and you will never know when to say ?No?.
The great news is that these all can be easily addressed through a myriad of different self-help techniques. So many people have reported dramatic results in only weeks and months. It?doesn?t?cost the earth to get started and your renewed sense of self filters down and around into every part of your life.
